Storing extra PCs in between use? Can't Post

I(and I assume most of you) have several extra PCs for different purposes. What do you do with them when you are not using them? Is anyone worried about hurting the life of the PC? I imagine how you store them is not going to change the lifespan much, assuming you don't store them out in the sun and elements...

I roll or fold them into ziplock bags and have them in a backpack. Any suggestions for keeping them in good shape? Or just don't worry about it?

I do the same as you: Fold them neatly into a ziplock bag and store them all in a backpack sitting in my (dark, dry) closet. It's a good idea to pull them out on a regular basis and let the bag "breathe" if you live in a very humid area. Mold is bad.

At Apex BASE, we store stock PCs in the same way. Folded neatly into ziplocks.

I think you're on the right track. =)

Sweet. That's all I needed to hear. Thanks!

I keep mine inside a bag so they aren't exposed to sunlight, and in a reasonably temperature controlled environment. I kind of try to fold them neatly, but I've never worried about it and have never had any issues from that.

Mine are folded and rolled, loose thin rubber band around each, and in a cloth bag inside.

Things to consider:
https://apps.dtic.mil/...lltext/u2/668910.pdf
"As to the causes of the "less typical" cases, a number of
possibilities are known. Variations in material manufacture or
processing, may make a production lot unusually susceptible.
Acidic breakdown products of residues or finishing compounds may
deteriorate the material directly, or accelerate other degrading
processes. Excessive heat, as for instance in sTorage close
under a roof in a hot climate, may act directly or serve to promote
other change mechanisms. Instances of prolonged exposure to
sunlight or fluorescent lighting occur in maintenance operations."
Take care,

What do you think about storing in cold temperatures? I keep leaving my gear in my trunk over night near Chicago. Pretty cold out a lot of the time lately.

Is there any moisture in there? Or are they thoroughly dry (never damp at all) when you roll them up?

Always dry...if i ever get a little snow on landing, i stretch it all out and let everything thoroughly dry before packing the main and storing it again. Same with the PCs...they are completely dry and stored in a dry place.

I remember reading the BFL where the guys jumped ice blocks because they packed wet rigs that froze. So, I am careful about letting things dry based on that fatality.

I think you'll be fine, then. I've been leaving my (dry) gear out in sub freezing temperatures, in the back of my vehicles, for more than a decade, during winters here. I have yet to see any problems caused by it.
