Question about round parachutes...

as rounds have been discussed here, I thought I might as well also ask (already asked on DZ.com) Has anyone wingsuited with a round in his rig ? any thoughts about how they coud go together ? I suppose it wouldn't be "a big deal" as rounds can also be "mistreatead" in weird openings like high speed static line and such. I would like to try that in a skydiving environment, and have several rounds to try, from old reserves to Paracommanders ... and a HUGE lake to land in

Just because I liked jumping the Paracommander, and I would have the occasion to go try all these other canopies over water. And to get bragging rights I have never wingsuited with rounds but have BASE jumped and skydived with them. The only obvious issue that comes to mind is weight and pack volume. All my BASE jumps with rounds were with round reserves and there are two good reasons for that. The first is reliability. Paracommander-type canopies have a higher malfunction rate than other rounds. Second, is that PCs are a shitload bulkier and heavier. No way will a PC--even an RW PC, which was much lighter and less bulky than the regular PCs--fit in the typical BASE container. A round reserve will fit with no problem. Edited to add: On second thought, an RW PC *might* fit. Here are some charts I hope this helps. Walt

I saw George Roso freefall a Paracommander from a 600 foot cliff back in 1986. He found it under the riggers table. Even in 1986, if you wanted to jump one of those things you would 1) Have to find one 2) Be fairly demented. George qualified on both counts. All BASE rigs came in one size (big) back then. Even then I couldn't believe that it fit. Rich Stein has it on old super 8 movie film somewhere. It worked fine.
