Help with Base Canopy Packing Can't Post

Hello everyone, I'm writing from Argentina and I would like to ask you if anyone can tell me where can I donwload or get a DVD with packing instructions, in the near future I want to take a BASE course, and I want to get to know and practice some packing so I don't have to start from scratch.

thank you in advance!

how do you have a base canopy and no mentor? or are you just practicing on a 7 cell skydive canopy?

for now I will practice with a regular 7 cell canopy, until I decide to take the course and get a Base rig.

Sign up for an Apex course, you'll get a packing dvd in the mail to practice with :)

Where do you skydive? Ask the rigger there to show you how reserves are packed. The process is very similar untill its time to narrow it and put it in the free bag.

Yes, I talked with apex guys, and Iīm planning to go to the US in October but I donīt know if I will have time enough to take the course.
I was asking you if i could get a downloadable dvd from somewhere so I start practicing and when I know if I will be able to go to APEX, I already have some basics on it.

Thabk you all!

Just like gauleyguide suggested go to your local DZ and talk to the rigger. You can also find a local mentor in your area that can help you out as well. Where is it you skydive at?

Re: [long2jump] Help with Base Canopy Packing [In reply to] Can't Post

I skydive in Buenos Aires, Argentina my DZ is called LOBOS (Wolves). There is only 1 rigger there, I will ask him if he is willing to teach me (donīt think so)...
and there arenīt a lot of BASE jumpers..

one of them told me that he teaches a course, but jumping from a trike and I want to jump from a bridge or an anthena to start.... what do you guys reckon??

and again, I know that APEX BASE is probably the best place to learn, but its way to expensive for me... as Iīm going in october to AZ, Iīll see if I can get the money to take it.... !

Tom A. has a free download packing video. But you might have to invest is 32 bungy cords, 48 clamps, ect...

learning from a local (for you) should mean he will eventually show you objects. bypassing him may or may not be a smart move.

trike learning should be safer than a B or A. it seems like a reasonable way to introduce you to low altitude, single parachute jumping.

plus, you won't be feeling a time crunch. you can learn to learn at YOUR pace, not based on weather and trip schedule.

I think you are right, thanks for the advice, I thought trike learning wasnīt really base since you are moving... but what you say may be truth.

thanks for the advice!

BASE educatioin [In reply to] Can't Post

They used to use tether'd hot air balloons.
Now most manufactureres use the Perrine.
Some people still use their local antennas.

Paragliders, ultralights, and helicopters
flown by friends can also provide practice.

Really any way to jump from below 1,000'
wearing your single parachute BASE rig is
damn good practice for real BASE jumps...
in my very uncool, old, and green opinion.

Agreed 100%.. you've changed my mind about jumping from a trike or whatever makes me jump from less than 1000 ft and single parachute.

thanks!!!

Just to add, if you go to your rigger, you might not want to mention BASE. Just tell him you are curious about how reserves are packed....
