Jumping with smoke

I was searching for similar topic in BJ forum, but dint find. What about jumping with smoke, do you use any special construction to avoid burns (body, ts or wingsuit) from smoke sacks? What do you think is the best way to mount it on foot? What kind of smoke do you use?

If you put it in a bowl or bong, you are less likely to burn yourself, unless you use a roach clip. Why would you want to put it on your foot? As far as what kind of smoke, it depends on what is available and how much cash I have. I try not to get the cheap mexican shit, I try to stay with the local home grown.

What do you think is the best way to mount it on foot? What kind of smoke do you use? Ok, here is a list of random thoughts. I have not jumped smoke with a wingsuit but my experience is with two kinds of smoke:
- Colored smoke that has a burn time of somewhere between 30 and 60 secs
- Law enforcement smoke that emits a thick white smoke and burns a really long time--so long that it can easily still be going when you land and smoke up a large field, choking the shit out of everyone around.
Either smoke works, but you need to be aware of how much burn time you need and how much is too much burn time. One time I jumped some law enforcement smoke on a skydive. Fortunately, it was only a practice jump, because even though I popped the smoke under canopy at about 3000 ft., the fucker kept burning for several minutes after I landed and created a huge cloud of thick white smoke that even went across the runway. Not only is it really thick smoke but it smells like blown firecrackers. No way would I want to land around any breathing creatures with that stuff unless I could put it out right away (Hint: make sure there is a bucket of water in the landing area!) When cops throw one of those in a house to smoke someone out, it probably works pretty well. I'm sure there are a shit ton of ways to mount smoke grenades but the smoke brackets I use have a quick-release handle. Superior Signal Co. has been around for many years and makes good stuff. For sure, no smoke is 100% reliable so have extras on hand. You're better off ordering a bunch at a time anyway because it is considered hazardous cargo and you get charged extra for it. As I recall, they will only ship that stuff to a business address (like a DZ). And don't forget the stuff has an expiration date and *can* go bad after a while. Plan on not taking smoke grenades on the aircraft when you travel. They are considered incendiary devices. I would be surprised if you are allowed to put them in checked-in baggage too. Definitely practice with one or two before any kind of pressure jump with smoke. It is one more thing that can screw up. Walt

If WS or tracking use left foot. Have removal system (knife) or water at landing. Keep away from canopy when landed.
