IHI Bupa stopped covering base jumping. Can't Post

I just called IHI Bupa to get a travel insurance and have been told that they don't cover base jumping any more!

Does anyone knows who else provides base jumping insurance?

Thanks

Has anyone bought a policy from XSI yet?
If so, will it help fill this gap?
Any notes on your experiences with XSI?

Re: [snhughes] IHI Bupa stopped covering base jumping. [In reply to] Can't Post

This is no good... Frown IHI Bupa was awesome, my gf had an accident in LB a few months ago and they covered everything. It was a minor accident in comparison to some/most but IHI saved me about $6000.00.

I will be doing research to find a new provider but if anyone knows another company I would be very happy to know. Jumping overseas would feel a whole lot sketchier knowing I didn't have coverage...

Just looked at XSI and they do not cover BASE. Even in their "adventure" plan. maybe calling and paying more could get them to cover it but in the basic plans online, BASE is listed as an exemption to coverage.

I tried talking with them on the chat yesterday, but the travelinsurance support is only open 9-17.
I will see if I have time tonight

I spoke to the Bupa representatives in a chat session. This is what they said about insurances that were bought before the change was announced:

Sena Johnsen: it is going to be valid from 01.01.2012. But for customers buying their insurances now
Sena Johnsen: knowing about the change
Sena Johnsen: it will also apply
Sena Johnsen: but since you did not know about it, and issued your insurances several months ago
Sena Johnsen: you will be covered, until you have to renew the insurance again
Sena Johnsen: next year
Sena Johnsen: Since you already have you insurance you are still covered
Sena Johnsen: just please be aware that the next time you renew your policy
Sena Johnsen: you will not be covered for basejumping

SevenCorners use to.
Now I noticed they added a clause to Parachuting under their Hazardous Sports coverage.

In reply to:
Hazardous Sport Coverage

To cover motorcycle/motor scooter riding, hang gliding,
parachuting, bungee jumping, water skiing, snow skiing,
snowmobiling and snow boarding.

Parachuting shall mean an activity involving the breaking of a
free fall from an airplane using a parachute

But I'm not sure if I want to trust that.
Insurancescompanies, salesmen, politicians and my previous boss have one thing in common.

I think I will send them a mail and get it "on paiper" that it is still valid.
Not that I don't trust you, but if the brown stuff hits the spinning thing....

The french paralpinism organisation offers accident + search and rescue insurance through the FFCAM (Club Alpin Francais) which is valid in whole europe and Marocco. Covers only cliff jumps, no urban shit.

If you par le vuu fransee you can find more info from : http://paralpinisme.fr/ or http://www.ffcam.fr/assurance.html,

I think there can be no other way. Terms of any agreement cannot be changed after signing it, without both sides agreeing to it. So if base jumping was covered at the moment of signing the agreement it has to be valid till the agreement expires. No new law can work backwards.

Sometimes they can, ther can be a paragraph saying they are allowd to change the terms.

I don't know if thats the case with this insurance

Re: [Hellis] IHI Bupa stopped covering base jumping. [In reply to] Can't Post

I would guess all insurances have these clauses in them. My life insurance has a clause that states that they can change the payment amounts or the terms of the insurance contract if I don't tell them about increased hazards or dangers that have an essential impact on my safety. Even seemingly minor things, like spending a year in foreign country, should be reported to them and if you fail to do so they might change the terms if they so choose.

I only took out a policy in October, but knowing that it's going to be an utter ballache to get cover when this expires, does anyone know if you can buy a renewal now to tag on the end that still covers BASE?

yes, you can get coverage for international travel medical with a Lloyd's, London insured plan at www.azimuthrisk.com and select the Beacon Series. You will want the Sports Rider for coverage while BASE jumping. I am with the company, so commercial interest disclosed...let me know if you need help and I'll be glad to do so.
